Ever since Aries Spears was 14 years old, the New York native has been a force to be reckoned with in the comedy scene across America. His quick wit, charisma, and ferociously aggressive style have earned him critical acclaim, high accolades, and—above all—a busy schedule. From his time as a regular on Mad TV to starring in feature films, appearing on national talk shows, and consistently selling out venues on tour, Aries’ talents are far-reaching. He has surpassed 3 million spins on Pandora, and his podcast ranks among the must-listen shows in the U.S.
This past summer, Aries guest-starred in See It Loud, CNN’s hit docuseries exploring the history of Black television. The series featured a wide range of notable voices, including Amanda Seales, Deon Cole, Gabrielle Union, Mo’Nique, Sherri Shepherd, Tisha Campbell, and Vivica A. Fox, among many others.
As a principal cast member on Mad TV from seasons three through ten, Aries brought a fresh, hip edge to the already bold sketch show. Producers frequently tapped him to create original characters and write sketches, allowing him to showcase his versatility across eight seasons. Some of his most memorable recurring impressions and characters include Bill Cosby, Jesse Jackson, Mike Tyson, Shaquille O’Neal, Michael Jackson, Sisqó, and Evander Holyfield. He also delivered standout impressions of James Brown, Al Pacino, and his childhood idol Eddie Murphy. His signature sketch, “Talkin’ American,” became one of the show’s most popular segments, helping boost ratings during its run.
Aries has also found success in film. At just 17, he was discovered in a comedy club and cast in Home of Angels, which led to a starring role alongside John Leguizamo in The Pest. He later appeared as the brother of Cuba Gooding Jr. in the blockbuster Jerry Maguire.
Building on that momentum, Aries transitioned seamlessly between film and television while continuing to develop new creative projects. He is currently writing and developing feature films, including one based on an original character he created during his time on Mad TV, as well as a thriller centered on a young Black man navigating hip-hop culture. His television appearances include Soul Train and The Best Damn Sports Show Period, where he created some of the show’s most memorable comedic moments. He has also lent his voice to the animated series C-Bear and Jamal.
Beyond entertainment, Aries maintains a strong connection to his African roots and actively supports charitable initiatives, particularly organizations that assist abused women. While he remains grateful for his accomplishments, Aries shows no signs of slowing down. With the continued rise of action-comedy in Hollywood, it’s clear that Aries Spears will remain in demand for years to come.
